What is a softshell jacket and when is it worn?
A softshell jacket is a sleeved, lightweight jacket made from a soft-shell fabric in which an outer stretch woven face is bonded to an inner fleece lining by lamination. It is the corporate outerwear of the spring-autumn transition season and cool summer evenings; it offers wind resistance, flexibility and light warmth, and does not add bulk like a thick winter coat. In mid-season it is worn on its own, and in the cold over a sweater.
What is the difference between a softshell jacket and a softshell coat?
The difference is weight, protection level and season of use. The softshell jacket is light and slim, a sporty-corporate product for mid-season comfort; the softshell coat is thicker, mostly three-layer with a membrane, hooded and a winter outer shell. The jacket is preferred for the cool transition period, the coat for cold and windy winter; for the heavy winter model see our softshell coat page.
What is the difference between a softshell jacket and a softshell vest?
The only difference is the sleeves: the softshell jacket has sleeves, the softshell vest is sleeveless. The jacket is preferred for arm protection and mid-season corporate use, the vest for jobs requiring arm freedom. They can be produced in the same fabric and the same Pantone color and used together in a team; for the sleeveless model you can see our softshell vest page.
Is a softshell jacket waterproof?
No, the softshell jacket is generally water-repellent, not waterproof. The DWR (durable water repellent) coating on the surface runs off light rain and drizzle; however, in continuous and heavy rain the fabric soaks through. For work requiring full waterproofing we separately plan a membrane raincoat or a taped-seam waterproof model. We do not make a misleading 'waterproof' claim.
Is a softshell jacket windproof?
The main advantage of softshell is wind resistance: the tightly woven outer face and, in a membrane model, the intervening film layer block the wind. The membrane-free two-layer structure is wind-resistant, while the membrane structure is close to fully windproof. For a mid-season jacket, a wind-resistant two-layer structure is mostly sufficient; we select on the sample according to need.
In which season is a softshell jacket used?
Its main use area is the spring and autumn transition period and cool summer evenings. It fills the temperature range between the t-shirt/shirt and the winter coat: more wind-resistant and outdoor-suitable than a sweatshirt, and lighter and more mobile than a winter coat. In winter the season can be extended by wearing it over a sweater.
Is a softshell jacket suitable for corporate staff?
It is very suitable: its sporty yet tidy silhouette, stand-up collar and plain cut in a corporate color give a professional look for staff, sales and field teams. A left-chest embroidered logo and hidden-zipper pockets strengthen the corporate perception; the same Pantone color is kept to a single standard across the whole team.
Are the cuffs and waist of a softshell jacket adjustable?
Yes. The cuff is adjusted with snaps, velcro (hook-and-loop tape) or rib knit, and the waist with a drawcord gather or elastic; these adjustments block the wind and help the jacket fit the body. The adjustment type is determined on the sample according to corporate appearance and comfort of use.
Can a hood be added to a softshell jacket?
It can be added. On request a detachable (snap or zip) hood is planned; in corporate use a plain hoodless cut is mostly preferred, while in outdoor field use a hooded model is preferred. A detachable hood lets the same jacket be used in both an office and a field appearance.
Which weight is suitable for a softshell jacket?
The weight is chosen according to the season. Softshell fabric is produced in roughly the 80-400 g/m² range; the mid-season jacket is generally planned in the mid range. The slim sporty jacket breathes and stays light at a lower weight, while the four-season corporate jacket strikes a comfort-durability balance at a medium weight. Weight is expressed in g/m² (grams per square meter); the exact value is finalized on the sample.
Is a softshell jacket flexible, does it restrict movement?
It is flexible. Because elastane (spandex) is added to the outer face in the %4-7 range, the fabric stretches two- or four-way; in a sleeved cut this stretch prevents the back from pulling during arm-raising and reaching motions. When the right size and a fitted pattern are chosen, the jacket does not restrict movement; we confirm the size distribution with a sample.
Should a softshell jacket have embroidery or print for the logo?
For a low-color corporate logo we recommend embroidery: it is stitched on the left chest, sleeve or back, is durable and does not fall apart under heavy use. For a multi-color, thin-line or large design, transfer and laser-cut applique are more suitable. The two methods can be applied to different parts in the same order; position and technique are approved on the sample.
At what temperature is a softshell jacket washed, how is the DWR protected?
Washing at 30-40 degrees, with zippers closed, without fabric softener and on a delicate program is recommended; fabric softener damages the water-repellent DWR coating. When water repellency weakens, the coating is reactivated for about 20 minutes in a dryer at low-medium heat, or with a warm steam-free iron over a cloth. High heat is avoided; always follow the product label.
Can the corporate color of a softshell jacket be matched to Pantone?
Yes. Your corporate color is matched by Pantone code in fabric selection or dyeing and submitted for your approval; the approved recipe is archived for repeat orders, so later batches come in the same shade. A low quantity is possible in a stock color; in custom dyeing the batch minimum is finalized according to the production plan.
Do you produce women's-cut softshell jackets?
Yes. Production is done with women's and men's patterns; the women's pattern is graded with waist fit and bust allowance, the men's pattern with a straight body. The two patterns can be produced together in the same fabric, color and logo, so a single appearance is maintained in mixed teams; you report the size distribution by pattern type.
How are softshell jacket sizes determined, are large sizes available?
Production is done by grading in the S-5XL range; the chest circumference is between approximately 96-124 cm, and the sleeve length is planned by size group. You report the size distribution according to the team list; for uncertain sizes we recommend a trial with a sample jacket, and custom measurements and intermediate sizes are worked on a per-order basis.
What is the purpose of a two-way (double-slider) zipper?
Because the two-way zipper also opens from the bottom, it relieves the hem of the jacket when sitting, bending and driving; it is practical on long jackets and in-vehicle use. The chin-guard garage prevents the zipper from touching the neck. We determine the zipper type on the sample according to your usage scenario.
Does a softshell jacket make sense for a sales and field team?
Yes, it is a common choice: for teams switching between customer visits and the outdoor field, the jacket stays both corporate and resistant to weather conditions. The left-chest and back logo provides brand visibility, and hidden-zipper pockets give a tidy look; the corporate color is standard across the whole team.
Is a softshell jacket suitable for an event and trade-fair team?
It is suitable: a jacket in a corporate color and with a back logo quickly makes the team recognizable, and the sleeved cut also provides arm protection at an outdoor event. The slim sporty model is preferred indoors and the hooded model outdoors; for bulk production with a short lead time we start from a minimum of 10 pieces.
What is the minimum quantity for a softshell jacket, what is the lead time?
Our minimum order quantity is 10, with a 7-15 day lead time. While minimum quantities in the market for logo jacket manufacturing are mostly higher, with a low MOQ small teams also work at the manufacturer's price; as quantity increases, the unit price drops. The sample is paid for, and the fee is refunded when an order is placed; pricing is shared in a written offer.
Do you produce reflective softshell jackets?
Yes. For teams working at night and in low light, we produce softshell jackets with a neon fluorescent background and retroreflective tape; high visibility is graded as Class 1, 2 or 3 under the EN ISO 20471 standard. A class is valid only with accredited testing and certification; we do not make an uncertified class claim, and we clarify the need in the specification.
What does EN ISO 13688 mean for a softshell jacket?
EN ISO 13688 is the general (basic) standard that protective clothing must comply with: it defines requirements for ergonomics, harmlessness, sizing, marking and ageing, and does not on its own grant a protection class. A protective softshell jacket is evaluated within this basic framework and is always applied together with a product-specific standard (for example EN ISO 20471). A standard corporate jacket generally remains within this basic scope.
Is a softshell jacket sufficient in cool weather?
Cool-environment (roughly above minus 5 degrees) protection is evaluated by EN 14058; a mid-season softshell jacket works well on its own in this range. At lower temperatures use is extended by wearing it over a sweater or sweatshirt; for intense cold and wind a winter softshell coat is preferred. A real class is valid only with certified testing.
Can we produce the softshell jacket, vest and coat in the same color?
Yes, we recommend it. The softshell vest, jacket and coat are produced in the same Pantone corporate color and with the same logo application; this way a single appearance is maintained even when the team changes layers by season. Planning the annual program in one go provides both color consistency and production efficiency; a minimum of 10 pieces applies separately for each item.
