Buyer checklist

• Softshell is a soft-shell fabric in which an outer stretch woven face is bonded to an inner fleece lining by lamination. The two-layer structure consists of the outer face and the inner fleece, contains no membrane, and derives its water protection solely from the DWR coating; in the three-layer structure a water-wind barrier membrane (TPU/PU film) is added in between. Since lightness and flexibility are the priority on the jacket side, a two-layer or thin-membrane structure is mostly preferred.
• The DWR (durable water repellent) coating is a finish applied to the fabric surface that beads up and runs off water droplets without letting them penetrate the fiber. The rain behavior of the softshell jacket depends on this coating; the coating weakens with washing and abrasion and is reactivated with low heat (see the care note).
• Honest protection distinction: the softshell jacket is water-repellent, not waterproof. Light rain and drizzle run off the surface; in continuous, heavy rain the fabric soaks through. Work requiring full waterproofing needs a membrane raincoat or a taped-seam hardshell; the softshell jacket is for mid-season comfort.
• The source of the stretch is elastane: the outer face is typically woven predominantly from polyester, and elastane (spandex) is added to the structure in the %4-7 range to provide two- or four-way stretch. In a sleeved cut, this stretch prevents the back of the jacket from pulling during arm-raising and reaching motions and gives a fitted pattern.
• The weight is chosen according to the season of use: softshell fabric is produced in roughly the 80-400 g/m² range; the mid-season jacket is generally planned in the mid range. The slim sporty jacket breathes and stays light at a lower weight, while the four-season corporate jacket strikes a comfort-durability balance at a medium weight. The exact weight is finalized on the sample.
• Mid-season positioning: the softshell jacket fills the temperature range between the t-shirt/shirt and the winter coat. It is more wind-resistant and outdoor-suitable than a sweatshirt, and lighter and more mobile than a winter coat; spring-autumn and cool summer evenings are the main use area of this jacket.
• Cuff and waist adjustment: the cuff is adjusted with snaps, velcro (hook-and-loop tape) or rib knit, and the waist with a drawcord gather or elastic; these adjustments block the wind and help the jacket fit the body. The adjustment type is approved on the sample according to corporate appearance and comfort of use.
• Zipper and closure: the front full-length zipper is planned with a chin-guard garage, and a two-way (double-slider) zipper provides sitting and movement comfort; pocket openings are made zippered. A YKK or equivalent quality zipper is preferred; the zipper pull cord can be matched to the corporate color.
• The pocket configuration is set up according to the job: there are options for a chest zippered pocket, two side warmer pockets, an internal phone-document pocket and a sleeve pocket. On a sales and staff jacket, the pockets can be planned with hidden zippers for a tidy look; the layout is approved with a diagram.
• Collar and hood: the stand-up (half-turtleneck) collar protects the neck from the wind; on request a detachable (snap/zip) hood is added. In corporate use a collarless-hoodless plain cut is mostly preferred, while in outdoor field use a hooded model is preferred.
• Logo application is done on the visible surfaces of the jacket: embroidery is stitched on the left chest, sleeve or back, and looks durable and prestigious on a low-color corporate logo; for a multi-color and large design, transfer or laser-cut applique is applied. Position and technique are approved with a diagram before production.
• Size and measurement: production is graded in the S-5XL range, with women's and men's patterns; the chest circumference is approximately 96-124 cm, and the sleeve length is adjusted by size group. The women's pattern is worked with waist fit and bust allowance, the men's pattern with a straight body; you report the size distribution according to the team list.
• Care and DWR renewal: washing at 30-40 degrees, with zippers closed, without fabric softener and on a delicate program is recommended; fabric softener damages the DWR coating. When water repellency weakens, the coating is reactivated for about 20 minutes in a dryer at low-medium heat, or with a warm steam-free iron over a cloth. High heat is avoided; always follow the product label.
• Branding durability: embroidery is a common and durable method on the softshell surface; for a thin-line or multi-color logo, transfer and laser-cut applique are preferred. The branding method is selected on the sample according to the fabric, the detail of the logo and the intensity of use.
• EN ISO standard framework: the softshell jacket is everyday corporate and field clothing; it does not have to carry a protection class on its own. Like all protective garments, it is fundamentally evaluated within the EN ISO 13688 (general requirements for protective clothing) framework; special protection such as high visibility (EN ISO 20471) or cool environment (EN 14058) is always defined by a vertical standard, with accredited testing and certification.
